The Big Reveal

If you remember, from the very last post, I posted a teaser picture. Well, the secret project is finished and ready for it's big debut on the blog! Wa Hoo!

And so.....

Without further ado.....

The completely refurbished car seat for my sweet Hazel Jane!

I accomplished this project with many hours of labor from myself and my wonderful mother, two borrowed sewing machines because they kept having issues, THIS tutorial, and a wee bit o' stress that she would come before it was completed.

But, it is now complete, she hasn't arrived yet, all sewing machines are in proper order, I will never do it again, and I am in love with it. :)

I should show you a before picture...

It's all boy, AND it was falling apart. I was amazed as I unpicked the whole thing how terribly it was put together. That's what happens with assembly-line products I guess.
I feel much safer with this craftsmanship.

And so, today I have more projects of course! Hair bows and a car seat tent. Woo hoo! I'm excited with the comparative simplicity of today's projects.

And here are a few other projects that have been keeping me busy this weekend:

Last-minute "girling-up" of the crib

Thank-you's for my wonderful birthing companions (doula and midwife and their assistants) and for anyone who comes to visit Hazel once she comes.

And this is has actually been all C, he's been so sweet to get the birthing tub all comfy and ready. This thing is awesome, it's all lined with pillows and a bed sheet (and plastic lining of course), I could sleep in it. And on top of that, he's been sanitizing the entire house. ~Flash backs of when we had Will during the swine flu craze. C wouldn't let anyone touch him without sanitizing, possible rubber gloves, and those paper hospital masks.~ Not joking. He's a sweetheart. :)

So, after today, we'll be all ready for our little one's debut! I am sooooo excited for my home birth experience.

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer and you really did beautiful work but this is very dangerous :( Re-covering a carseat could void the warranty on the seat and makes it so that insurance doesn't have to pay if you are in an accident because you've made alterations after the safety inspection has been done.

Found your seat on pinterest - it's beautiful! And congrats on doing a home birth! It will be an awesome experience. As for Debbie Downer's comment... I don't think it's dangerous at all. You can add straps and pillows to a car seat, which "alters" it and your insurance will still cover an accident, so I don't see why adding some fabric to it would comprimise anything. Great job!

Oh wow, that car seat is AMAZING!!! You're a super star. I loved Hazel's birth story--I read it before but I got snooping around the internets after Postpartum group today and hey, you're a pretty swell gal. :) Thanks for sharing things!
